UN human rights expert urges strengthening fight against challenges impacting world poor
15.09.2017 10:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Saad Alfarargi, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, who was appointed this year May, made the call within his first report to the UN Human Rights Council, UN Radio reports.
As to Alfarargi, when it comes to challenges such as climate change and the global economic and financial crisis, it is the world poor who are «paying the price».
So, Alfarargi urged the international community to step up action to tackle these issues.
He stated that many of the «building blocks» that could bring about change are already available, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
He reminded that the 17 SDGs aim to create a more equitable planet by 2030 while the climate treaty seeks to limit global temperature rises to below two degrees Celsius.
