UN Relief Chief: "It hurts" that humanitarian needs go unmet
31.08.2017 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, while speaking within a wide-ranging interview ahead of leaving his post at the end of this year Aug, UN Relief Chief Stephen O’Brien has said «it hurts» when the humanitarian response to a man-made crisis is insufficient to meet the needs of vulnerable people, UN Radio reports.
As to him, there is a «widening gap» between the level of need and available resources to deal with it; often due to complex and protracted conflicts in places such as Syria and Yemen.
As to O’Brien, it has always been his duty to «speak truth to power» while briefing the Security Council on the facts on the ground.
He has said that with enough «political will», solutions could be found to every humanitarian crisis.
