UN migration agency rescues 1,000 migrants within northern Niger

Since this year Apr, the IOM (UN International Organization for Migration) has rescued 1,000 people within distress trying to make their way across the border between Niger and Libya, UN Radio says referring to the IOM report.
As to the report, within this year Jul, the IOM conducted an assessment mission of migratory routes within the desert of the border area, in order to improve migrant rescue procedures.
The agency worked with Niger Department of Civil Protection to identify the challenges and migrant flows, while also rescuing around 150 migrants in distress.
As to the report, since this year Jan, more than 60,000 have crossed into Niger, with only half of them being accounted for, leaving the country.
