SIDS share "unique challenges" to food security and nutrition

As of this week, while speaking within his opening statement during a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) conference in Rome, Italy, Peter Thompson, the UN General Assembly President, has said the launch of a Global Action Programme on Food Security and Nutrition within the Small Island Developing States or SIDS has been welcomed by the UN, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Thompson admitted that because of their small size and isolation, the SIDS are particularly threatened by natural disasters and the impacts of climate change and as a result, many of them are facing food insecurity and high rates of malnutrition.
