As of today, the Chair of UN-Water and Head of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder, has launched a video message marking World Water Day 2017 (celebrated Mar 22), UN Radio reports.
As to the report, in his video message Ryder said Everyone around the world «can do their bit» to reduce and re-use wastewater.
Reportedly, he admitted wastewater is a «valuable resource» 80% of whic, currently flows back into the ecosystem, polluting the environment.
Besides, Ryder also said that Sustainable Development Goal 6 on ensuring the availability and management of water for all by 2030, includes a target to halve the proportion of untreated wastewater and boost water recycling.
«Everyone can do their bit, from not putting cooking oils down the plughole, to industries developing ever-cleaner processes. Water is finite, it has to serve the needs of more and more people and we only have one ecosystem from which to draw our water. So lets reduce and re-use more wastewater and help ensure everyone has access to a safe and secure water supply,» Ryder emphasized.
