Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Deputy Minister on European Integration Olga Trofimtseva admits, presently in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has started to work on the agrarian part of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Changes, Ukrinform says referring to the Ministry press service report.
«With the assistance of FAO, we have started to work on the agrarian part of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Changes. Meanwhile, we are also working within the framework of other projects, such as ClimaEast. In addition, there are certain initiatives in forestry and fishing industries,» Trofimtseva said.
As to her, agriculture is one the sectors which have the most massive environmental impact, but it is also very vulnerable to climate changes.
Therefore, she says, the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry actively cooperates with other government authorities in terms of environmental protection. For example, the Ministry cooperates with the Ukrainian Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry within the framework of the World Bank’s project on the development of irrigation systems in Ukraine.
As to Trofimtseva, Ukrainian agricultural industry is to adapt to climate changes. In particular, the environmental impact can be reduced by the use of Mini-Till and No-Till technologies, the careful use of insecticides during sowing campaigns, organic production, biodiversity preservation, the settlement of packaging and food loss issues.
