UN Chief: "I am committed to achieving a world free of nuclear weapons"

As of yesterday, while speaking within a video message for the opening of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his commitment to achieving a world free of nuclear weapons, UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, the Conference on Disarmament was established within 1979 as the sole negotiating forum on this issue for the international community.
As to the report, the Secretary-General admitted disarmament can play an important role in ending existing conflicts and preventing outbreaks of new strife.
It also helps to provide what he described as «the breathing space» which would allow for confidence-building and stability.
As to the report, Guterres told the Conference delegates that the world expects them to promote security through peaceful action.
