Maryna Poroshenko met with inclusive education experts in New York State Department of Education
23.09.2016 10:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Within the framework of the working visit of President of Ukraine to the United States, President’s wife Maryna Poroshenko had a meeting with leadership of the New York State Department of Education, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, Maryna Poroshenko presented current results in the development of inclusive education in Ukraine to Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education Carmen Fariña.
Reportedly, Deputy Chancellor at the Division of Specialized Instruction Corinne Rello-Anselmi told about the reform on socialization and inclusion of children with disabilities in the educational process, which had begun in New York in 2010. This reform program, just as in Ukraine, had started with a pilot project.
As to the report, the parties, in part., discussed the legal framework in the field of education for children with disabilities, the package of instructions for the administration of schools, teachers and single-discipline specialists, the system of determination of education, rehabilitation and social services for special students. As well as the social aspect of perception of special students by peers without disabilities and their parents.
As to the report, Maryna Poroshenko paid particular attention to the fact that the study of international experience, including the US administration system, would help Ukraine develop its own most effective model of inclusive education.
«Studying international practice will speed up the development of an inclusive educational environment in Ukraine, contribute to the effective implementation of advanced techniques, expand social opportunities for our children and generally change the attitude towards people with disabilities,» she said.
