19.09.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Mankind has the «knowledge and tools» to end AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by 2030, the target date for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UN Radio says referring to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon report made last week Sat while addressing the Fifth Replenishment Conference held in Montreal (Canada) of the Global Fund (a financing institution dedicated to fighting three of the biggest threats to world health).
It is to be admitted, the Conference marked the 15th anniversary of the Fund, and the Secretary-General noted that within that time the Fund had saved an estimated 20 million lives.
The Global Fund raises and invests money to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and its calling for US$13 billion over three years, beginning in 2017.
In meanwhile, speaking to the Conference, Ban said he was proud of the role that UN organizations had played working with the fund to achieve common goals, a key example, he added, of how everyone must come together to achieve the 17 SDGs.
«We have the knowledge and tools to end HIV, TB and Malaria by 2030. This is a target and ambition and our vision, to make this world better, this planet earth healthier, and environmentally stable. Let us work together to make this world healthier, and better for all. I count on your strong commitment and leadership,» he emphasized.
