UN report looks at migration flows between Iraq and Europe
17.08.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has issued a new report examining the migration flows between Iraq and Europe and the reasons behind it, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, presently the main reasons for emigration from Iraq are lack of security, perceived lack of equality and social justice and political instability.
Economic stability is considered secondary to security concerns.
It is to be admitted, many of the report participants select a country of destination based on the presence of friends or relatives, or the ease of obtaining the residency permits.
However, many migrants say that life in Europe has been idealized and that the reality has appeared to be more difficult.
In meanwhile, the IOM Iraq Chief of Mission admits about 85,000 Iraqis arrived to Greece by sea in the second half of 2015 alone.
