FAO: International food price index falls for first time within five months
05.08.2016 09:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
International prices for major food products have fallen for the first time within five months, UN Radio says referring to the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) report.
As to the report, the FAO Food Price Index showed a «modest decline» within this year Jul, due largely to a drop in the price of grains and vegetable oils.
Reportedly, within this year Jul grains’ prices have fallen 5.6% against this year Jun due to mostly a drop in maize prices (caused by favourable growing conditions in the United States).
As to the report, this year Jul vegetable oils’ prices have dropped by about 3% against this year Jun.
Reportedly, this year Jul dairy, meat and sugar products’ prices have slightly improved, but not enough to offset other falling prices.
