Mobile teams to be set up in Ukraine to supervise customs officers work

As of Wed, the Cabinet will consider the issue on establishing inter-agency mobile teams, consisting of customs officers, border guards, tax police and law enforcement officers, to fight against smuggling at the country’s customs houses, UNIAN says referring to the Chief of the Ukrainian State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov yesterday briefing in Kyiv.
«I expect that on Wednesday we will sign an interagency agreement and create mobile teams,» Nasirov said.
At this, Nasirov stressed that the activity of the first units would focus on the major areas of concern.
«It is a matter of weeks. We will be able to launch mobile teams. I think it will be Volyn region, Zakarpattia, and the south, including Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions, and in part, Sumy and Kharkiv customs offices,» Nasirov said.
As to the earlier report, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman had announced the establishment of an inter-agency unit to monitor the activity of customs officers.
It is planned to create 20 mobile teams consisting of officers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, border guards, the police and the State Fiscal Service, and tasked with assessing and verifying the efficiency of customs houses across the country.
The PM emphasized that smuggling as a phenomenon must be eliminated in Ukraine.
