Ukrainian, Azerbaijani Presidents agree to develop transport routes towards China, Iran

As of the last week, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a
a meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, the parties discussed the opportunity of further development of bilateral trade and economic relations, inter alia, in energy, oil and gas, transport, communication and construction spheres.
Reportedly, they also agreed to hold the 11th session of the InterGovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation shortly.
As to the report, the Presidents also discussed the consequences of Russian embargo on Ukrainian products and ban on transit.
In this regard, Poroshenko praised successful dispatch of the first container train on the route «Ukraine Georgia Azerbaijan Kazakhstan China» from Illichivsk.
As to the report, within the meeting Petro Poroshenko and Ilham Aliyev coordinated actions necessary for the development of transit route across the Caspian Sea towards China and Iran.
Azerbaijan reiterated support for the Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Besides, within the meeting Petro Poroshenko and Ilham Aliyev also discussed preparations to the session of the Council of Presidents of the two states in Baku in 2016.
Reportedly, the parties also agreed to intensify cooperation in the framework of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development. Within this context, the Ukrainian President congratulated the representative of Azerbaijan who had been elected to the post of GUAM Secretary General.
