UN: New sustainable energy partnership unveiled

A new, worldwide energy partnership was launched by the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Wed. The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative will now be spearheaded by an international not-for-profit organization, the Sustainable Energy for All Partnership, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Mr. Ban also said sustainable energy is the «golden thread» that connects economic, social and environmental well-being.

It is to be mentioned, since its initial launch in 2011, the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative has mobilized thousands of partners across the public and private sectors towards ending energy poverty.
Now, the Initiative will be led by the Sustainable Energy for All Partnership non-profit, which will be based in Vienna, Austria.
As to the report, Mr. Ban said the inclusion of energy in the new development targets, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), was an important step forward in ensuring access to sustainable energy.
«We have built a firm foundation for supporting of the implementation of SDG7. But we can, and must, do more. To fully realize the power of Sustainable Energy for All, we need a solid long-term institutional arrangement,» he stressed.
