Ban: No time to waste to reach global climate change accord
27.08.2015 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As climate change is occurring faster than expected, there is «no time to waste» in forging a global deal to curb greenhouse gas emissions, UN Radio says referring to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon report made
in Paris within this week about the need to ensure an ambitious agreement conclusion (expected to tale place at the climate change summit in the French capital this Dec).
The slow pace of negotiations on a universal, legally binding accord to combat climate change must stop, according to the UN Secretary-General.
As to the report, Ban Ki-moon warned that less than 100 days are left to reach a final deal to address dangerous changes in the earths weather patterns caused by human behaviour.
He urged Member States to set aside national interests and come up with a strong global agreement for adoption at the UN climate change conference in December.
«That is why Im asking world leaders to give a clear message to their negotiators that they should accelerate this negotiation,» Mr. Ban said.
It is to be admitted, scientists warn that to prevent dangerous interference with the earths climate, the average global temperature must not rise more than two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
