Ukrainian President: We must finally shut off the flow of counterfeit goods
09.07.2015 17:48 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of today, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting in Kyiv on struggle against corruption and smuggling on the touch line with participation of security officials, representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and volunteers, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«At the moment, we are facing an extremely important and dangerous task - shut off smuggled flow,» the President emphasized.
«Touch line poses a great threat for the stability of the state and facilitates funding of separatism and terrorism from the occupied territories, which significantly undermines the security of Ukraine,» the President noted.
As to the report, Poroshenko reminded that anti-corruption meetings were recently held on the southern and western borders of Ukraine. Concrete actions were already being implemented following these meetings: thus, in particular, it was agreed to organize the work of common checkpoints with western neighboring countries; joint Ukrainian-European mission on control over the Transnistrian part of the border with Moldova is functioning; an agreement was achieved regarding the establishment of several terminals with transparent regime of the customs office in Odesa.
«In the framework of our commitments under the visa-free regime, we agreed that only border guards and customs officers are allowed in the checkpoints. There will be no veterinarians, ecologists and radiometry operators, because their sole work was to sell a certificate for money and bear no responsibility for the protection of the customs territory of Ukraine,» the President stressed.
As to the report, Poroshenko praised the response of the Security Service and the State Border Guard Service to the corruption on the border and the arrest of corrupt officials. «We must finally shut off the flow of counterfeit cargoes,» he emphasized.
