28.04.2006 17:49 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of Apr 25, agricultural companies have sown sugar beet at 359,600 ha (of total planned 750,000 ha), down against last year similar 531,400 ha, reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy press-service.
As to press-service, within last 3 days agrarians have sown sugar beet at 151,000 ha.
Reportedly, as of Apr 17, sugar beet had been sown at 68,900 ha (of total planned 750,000 ha).
As earlier reported, Association Ukrtsukor believes this year agrarians can boost sugar beet sown areas from 674,000 ha up to 740,000 ha; Ukrtsukor is convinced agrarians should again get interested in sugar beet cultivation due to domestic market sugar advantageous prices.
Agrarians had reduced sugar beet sown areas (2005 crop) to 673,950 ha, down 58,500 ha (- 7.98%) against 2004 crop sown areas, with agricultural companies having had sown sugar beet at 504,700 ha (down against 569,660 ha in 2004) and individual economies at 169,250 ha (down as of 184,340 ha in 2004).
Within last few years agrarians have been gradually reducing sugar beet production with its sown areas being shortened, due to sugar beet having been considered illiquid.
