11.06.2015 10:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with the U. S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power who arrived to Ukraine to examine the process of implementation of the Minsk agreements, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«You cannot imagine how famous you are in Ukraine,» the President joked at the beginning of the meeting noting that a lot of people in Ukraine watched the broadcast of the meetings of the UN Security Council regarding the Ukrainian issue.
As to the report, the President emphasized the importance of the UN Security Councils support for Ukraine and noted the high level of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the issues of security.
«Our greatest expectations on the implementation of the Minsk agreements are related to the support of the UN Security Council,» Poroshenko noted reminding his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of May 8 within which the parties had discussed the opportunity of involving the international peacekeeping contingent in ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
As to the report, the President informed on Ukraines strict compliance with its commitments under the Minsk agreements, particularly on the attempts to initiate political process through the organization of free and fair local elections and on their continuous violation by militants.
As to Poroshenko, when Russian-backed militants attacked Ukrainian warriors in Maryinka, Donetsk region, on Jun 3, Ukraine fully observed the Minsk agreements and managed to defend Maryinka and demonstrate responsibility.
As to the report, the President emphasized the importance of restoring Ukrainian control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and solving complicated humanitarian situation on the occupied territories. The President underlined the importance of establishing the UN Office in Kyiv for the maintenance of the Minsk agreements. Earlier, Poroshenko had agreed on that issue with Mr. Ban Ki-moon. As to the President, it will efficiently complement the activity of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.
In her turn, Samantha Power expressed support to the territorial integrity of Ukraine. She admitted that the purpose of her visit was to examine the process of implementation of the Minsk agreements. She also arrived to facilitate the establishment of the UN Office on the maintenance of the Minsk agreements in Ukraine.
As to the report, Power also noted the importance of a «very powerful» statement by the G7 regarding Ukraine.
Reportedly, Power praised the intention of the President to visit Donetsk region the following day. She informed on her visit to the places of residence of IDPs from Donetsk region.
Samantha Power was impressed with the way ordinary Ukrainians mobilize to assist the IDPs. As to her, she had visited a lot of countries with the problem of IDPs, but examples of mutual aid in Ukraine are unique.
