Step by step we should build a European Ukraine - Poroshenko

As of today, on the Day of Children’s Protection, President Petro Poroshenko met with school activists, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, the Head of State congratulated them on the holiday. The President noted that he was proud that Ukraine had such young Ukrainians that had great opportunities to build a new European state. «Step by step all of us should do everything possible to change the country for the best. We have no alternatives and no time. We are fighting for Ukraine,» Poroshenko emphasized.
Reportedly, Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine is a European country and urged pupils to work jointly in order to ensure the opportunity for Ukraine to enter the European Union. «I believe that we will jointly ensure this opportunity,» he said.
As to the President, Ukrainians had demonstrated a clear willingness to integrate into the EU and changed the attitude of Europeans to the prospect of Ukraine’s membership.
«People came to the streets on November 2013 not to demand higher wages or lower taxes. They wanted a European future. I think that few countries have fought for their European future so hard. Few countries have paid such a high price,» the President noted.
The President reminded that to enter the EU, Ukraine should meet the Maastricht and Copenhagen Criteria - which are related to the level of education, industry, GDP, democracy, freedom, struggle against corruption, independence of judicial power. «We will have to conduct a lot of reforms, inter alia, with your assistance. I count on you,» the President said.
As to the report, on the occasion of today’s holiday, the Presidential Administration opened the doors to children who could examine the premises and the gallery presented in the Administration. The President is hopeful that children enjoyed the excursion in the premises which had been closed for years. «We want it to be a symbol of openness and transparency of the steps made by the President, Government and Parliament in order to change the country for the better,» the Head of State emphasized.
