The model of agricultural production that predominates today is not suitable for the new food security challenges of the 21st century, UN Radio says referring to Graziano da Silva
(Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report made at the meeting in the French capital, Paris on last week Friday.
It is to be admitted, the International Forum on Agriculture and Climate Change, organized by the Frebch government, is a part of a series of events leading up to the Climate Summit scheduled to be held in December this year.
While speaking to the meeting audience (ministers, scientists, farmers and representatives of civil society), Mr. da Silva admitted although the number of people who suffer from hunger has been reduced by 100 million over the past decade, 805 million still dont have enough to eat.
Besides, he also told that agriculture must change.
He said that although the world produces enough food to feed everyone, hunger remains a problem.
Mr. da Silva also pointed out that the current model of agricultural production cannot prevent the degradation of soils and the loss of biodiversity.
He called for more sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems.
