Ban: "Strong commitments" needed to face world multiple crises
23.01.2015 17:10 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The year ahead must be a time for strong commitments and global action, UN Radio reports quoting the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
As to the report, Mr. Ban said the planet now faces the multiple crises - those geopolitical, socio-economic, and related to sustainable development ones.
But he is hopeful that the world can be set on course for a better future.
«UN Member States have proposed a set of Sustainable Development Goals that will guide anti-poverty efforts through the year 2030. I am expecting that all the leaders will come to the United Nations this year, will adopt and declare as their commitment, as their vision, to the world in September,» Mr. Ban said.
The UN Secretary-General also described sustainable development and climate action as being what he called «two sides of one coin».
He said climate action will contribute to many of the new development goals.
And these in turn, he noted, can be a new investment pipeline to tackle climate change.
