Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to report, Poroshenko expressed gratitude for a very important statement of President Barroso and President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy in which the EU heads called the elections in Ukraine a victory of the Ukrainian people and democracy.
Jose Manuel Barroso expressed hope that the new coalition in the Verkhovna Rada would be pro-European and immediately begin reforms and inclusive political dialogue in Ukraine.
Reportedly, the interlocutors discussed the issue of macro-financial assistance from the EU. The President of the European Commission once again assured of the readiness of the EU to allocate EUR 760 million from the first and the second package of macro-financial assistance by the end of the year, consider prospects of provision of the third package and continue supporting Ukraine in the dialogue with international financial organizations. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of financial transparency and the adoption of the law on the Accounting Chamber.
Besides, the Presidents also discussed the interaction in energy sphere on the eve of another round of trilateral negotiations on gas supply between Ukraine, the EU and Russia that will be held in Brussels on October 29.
Reportedly, Petro Poroshenko invited Jose Manuel Barroso to visit Ukraine at his convenience.
