19.09.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The suffering and spill over effects of Ebola in the West African region and beyond demands the attention of the entire world, UN Radio says referring to the UN Secretary-General report made before the Security Council as he announced the creation of a UN Mission, UNMEER, to respond to the epidemic and its consequences.
As to report, in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, increases in demand for Ebola Treatment Centre beds are continuing to outstrip capacity.
As to the latest figures from the World Health Organization, the total number of cases in West Africa is over 5,000 with more than 2,000 deaths.
Outlining an international response plan to the virus, Mr. Ban Ki-moon said Thursdays session was «timely and clearly warranted».
As to report, a resolution to expand the global Ebola response was adopted unanimously by all 15 members of the Security Council.
It is to be admitted, only twice before had the Council met to discuss the security implications of a public health issue; both times the focus was on the AIDS epidemic.
