UNESCO: "Stepping up the Pace" to reverse the trajectory of HIV
21.07.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
An international conference on AIDS is gathering under the theme of «Stepping up the Pace» to ensure that the pace increases to reverse the trajectory of the epidemic, UN Radio reports.
Organized by UNESCO and taking place in Melbourne, Australia, the 20th International AIDS Conference is scheduled from 20 to 25 July.
It will gather those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV, and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic.
The 2014 programme includes presentations on new scientific knowledge and will offer opportunities for structured dialogue on the major issues facing the global response to HIV.
However, the opening of the conference was overshadowed by what the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) described as an «international tragedy».
During a ceremonial inauguration last week Friday to welcome the conference participants, the organizers expressed deep sadness for the loss of many delegates who were travelling on the Malaysian flight that crashed in Ukraine.
