02.07.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Health experts are meeting in Ghana today to devise what is being described as a «strong response» to a continuing outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa, UN Radio reports.
New cases and deaths attributable to the disease have been reported in three West African countries, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
In the last week of June, 22 new cases, including 14 deaths, were reported.
Since March this year, more than 750 cases of Ebola and over 450 deaths have been recorded in those countries.
The disease causes severe haemorrhaging and can kill up to 90 per cent of those infected.
It’s spread by direct contact with the blood and body fluids of infected animals or people.
The meeting in Accra, Ghana is organised by the World Health Organization and is bringing together Ministers of Health and disease prevention experts from 11 African countries.
