President: Introduction of a new security format with guarantees for Ukraine is essential

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of State expressed gratitude to Germany for the assistance and support. «Thank you for an active role of Germany in supporting Ukraine in a difficult time for the state,» he said.
The Head of State informed the Foreign Minister on the progress of implementation of the peace plan on the settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine, particularly, on the proclamation of ceasefire in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
«Unfortunately, violations of ceasefire regime by the other side are being recorded. Last night, 8 more occasions were recorded. One serviceman was killed, 7 were wounded,» the Head of State noted.
The President expressed gratitude to Germany for supporting yesterday’s conclusions of the EU Council at the level of Foreign Ministers on the completion of the first phase of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan between Ukraine and the EU. He also asked to assist in the implementation of the second phase in order to introduce visa-free regime with the EU for the citizens of Ukraine as soon as possible.
The parties also discussed the necessity of introducing a new security format with efficient guarantees for Ukraine.
Petro Poroshenko suggested that the parties begin working over joint Ukrainian-German projects in the East of Ukraine aimed at restoration of the region’s economy and creation of new jobs.
