Yatseniuk presented in Parliament draft Laws which are real steps towards Ukrainian energy independence

On Thursday, June 19, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatseniuk presented in the Ukrainian Parliament the draft Law «On amending some Laws of Ukraine on reforming of the management system of the Unified Gas Transportation System Of Ukraine» (4116-A) and "About Special period in fuel and energy complex " (4117-A).
While introducing the draft Law on reforming of the management system of the Unified Gas Transportation System, Yatseniuk reminded that now transportation of gas through Ukraine to the European Union is performed not on the basis of a contract between Ukraine and the EU, but on the basis of the contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom: «We believe this scheme must be changed and the point of the gas transfer should be moved from the Ukraine western border to the eastern one,» he emphasized.
«These two Laws are the first real steps taken within twenty years towards our country’s energy independence forming. The steps to assure the Ukrainian energy system and gas transportation system becoming a guarantor of uninterrupted transit and incomes for the Ukrainian state,» Yatseniuk said.
