Shvaika: Ukraine received good conditions for trade liberalization with EU
16.05.2014 09:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine received good conditions for liberalization of the agricultural products’ trade with the EU. In particular, according to the tariff proposal, as soon as the Agreement comes into force, the EU cancels import
duties for 83% of the Ukrainian agricultural products and sets import duties for 15% quotas with a zero duty rate.
That was reported yesterday by the Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Trade Igor Shvaika, speaking at the panel discussion «Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area: ready for signing» in the frameworks of the international conference «The new European Policy: from words to deeds», Government Portal reports.
Analyzing the parameters of functioning of the EU free trade area (FTA) , Shvaika informed that Ukraine will liberalize trade immediately only for 35% of tariff lines, while for 3% (most sensitive) of them Ukraine will establish quotas; in what concerns other tariff lines, Ukraine will be reducing the import duties during the transition periods.
Igor Shvaika also noted: «Thanks to the import duty rates’ zeroing, Ukrainian confectionery industry sees prospects in its products’ export raising to the EU countries, up to about US$300400 mn. Ukrainian
sugar, starch and syrup industries also have good prospects.»
