Policy on climate change "inevitable", says UN official
16.01.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
A policy to address the issue of climate change at the international and national level has been described as «inevitable.»
Thats what Christina Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) told reporters on Wednesday, UN Radio says.
She spoke as more than 500 global financial leaders gathered at UN headquarters in New York to discuss the growing urgency of climate change and investor actions that are needed to solve the climate crisis.
«Our policy on climate change at the international level and at the national level is by now inevitable. It is inevitable because of the pounding and compound impact of climate change. And you see it very clear. It is progressing steadily forward. Governments have decided what the ultimate goal is, not to allow temperature to go above 2 degrees in its rise. They have a very clear deadline which they have set themselves which is next year already,» Ms. Figueres admitted.
Ms. Figueres urged investors to ask the companies that they have invested in not to use shareholder funds to influence policy against climate change.
