Yanukovych: Euromaidan is people's desire for better life
25.12.2013 12:53 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The necessity of protecting national interests and solving problematic economic issues became the reason of postponing the signature of the Association Agreement with the EU. It was stated by the Ukrainian President at the meeting with candidates for the posts of DSA Heads, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
«This decision became the impetus for the creation of Euromaidan,» the Head of State noted. At the same time he stressed that an insufficient informational policy was the shortcoming in that process because the position of the government on the protection of national interests had not been explained to people on time.
«The work on the establishment of the FTA didn’t take into account the opinion of commodity producers and vulnerable economic spheres subject to influence of the FTA,» the President emphasized. According to him, this work should have provided for the meetings with branch associations, studying their opinions and the opinion of the public and holding of open parliamentary hearings.
«It is not the document that could have been made closed. Certainly, a broad work on the discussion of the given issue should have been conducted. It is a great disadvantage that has influenced the decision,» the President said.
«The signature of the planned version of the Association Agreement with the EU would have caused economic losses in agriculture, transport mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing and high-tech spheres. If we sign this Agreement under such terms people will not forgive this mistake,» the Head of State emphasized.
«Ukraine should study the positive experience of modernization in other countries. At the same time, many people arrive to Ukraine to study national economic experience,» the President noted.
«When we saw such social rise, when we saw Euromaidan, I have been saying since the beginning that there is nothing bad in it. It is people’s desire for better life,» the Head of State stressed.
«A lot of people are guided by emotions and not by mind. Politicians, extremists and provocateurs started to receive benefits from this emotional explosion. We must make conclusions from this situation to prevent such incidents in the future. God gave us this challenge and we must overcome it with open face looking into the eyes of people,» the President said.
