Unique equipment installed on Dniester PSPP
12.12.2013 18:49 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
A new 540 tons generator stator has been mounted in the shaft of hydroelectric generating unit of the Dniester PSPP, the largest pumped storage power plant in Europe, ForUm reports referring to the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Ukrainian Cabinet.
The stator of the storage pump was preassembled at the PSPP installation site. Thus, it was for the first time in Ukraine that the factory process operation of assembly was performed at the very power plant.
This is a unique unit that can operate as both a hydro-generator and a motor. Completing the motor installation and reaching the planned capacity of the Dniester PSPP as one of three generating units is scheduled for 2015. Total capacity of the three units of the Dniester PSPP will be 972 MW. This will compensate the natural gas consumption for over 500 million UAH annually.
The first stage of the three storage pumps of the Dniester PSPP, design capacity 1,263 MW, should be completed in 2015. In general, the energy structure of the Dniester PSPP consists of 7 storage pumps, which are put into operation gradually through several startup turns.
Dniester PSPP is a unique and powerful hydroelectric complex in Europe. It consists of seven storage pumps of total capacity 2,268 MW, as government analysts say. Commissioning of the first stage of the Dniester PSPP will ensure the frequency quality of the produced electricity, will significantly increase the reliability of the country’s energy supply and expand export opportunities of the Ukrainian power system.
