Eastern Partnership summit opens today

As to ForUm, the third summit of the European Unions Eastern Partnership program has begun in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
A decision concerning the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was initially expected to be at the center of the event, but Kyiv recently decided to halt preparations for the signing of this document.
A joint declaration will be adopted and the EUs association agreements with Moldova and Georgia should be initialed during the summit in Vilnius.
The European Council said in a communique issued in Brussels that the Vilnius summit would be attended by the heads of state and government of the EUs 28 member states. Partner countries will be represented by Azerbaijans President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy will preside over the summit and will represent the EU at the event along with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. The host of the meeting will be Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Baroness Catherine Ashton, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht will be present as well.
