UN Economic Commission for Europe conducted Innovation Performance Review of Ukraine

United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has undertaken an Innovation Performance Review of Ukraine at the request of the Government of Ukraine, Government Portal reports.
Such a massive and landmark work has been done for the first time. The Review reflects the outcomes of a series of consultations and discussions between the Review team and policymakers, government officials, representatives of academic institutions and the business community and other innovation stakeholders of Ukraine.
These policy advisory exercises draw on the experience accumulated by the UNECE in the identification of good practices and policy lessons in the area of knowledge-based development, with particular reference to the problems of countries with economies in transition.
Sven Alkalaj, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in a foreword of the Review thanked the Government of Ukraine for its support in the implementation of this joint project and expressed hope that the recommendations of the Review would be useful to policymakers in their efforts to promote innovation.
The practical work on the Innovation Performance Review of Ukraine began in May 2012 with a preparatory mission by representatives of the UNECE secretariat to establish contacts and discuss the structure and content of the Review with the Ukrainian authorities and other stakeholders.
The conclusions and recommendations that contain in the Review are designed to contribute a significant improvement of the legal and institutional framework of innovation and reflect the relevance and usefulness of the political decision making.
Innovation Performance Review of Ukraine concerns: recent economic and innovation performance, national innovation system and innovation governance, framework conditions, innovation policies and instruments, knowledge generation and absorption, industry-science linkages and collaboration in the innovation process, financing innovative entrepreneurs, the role of innovation in international economic integration, prospective innovation-driven investment projects and information sources.
