Norway exports fish infested with parasitic insects
24.04.2013 16:53 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Since May 3, temporary restrictions are to be introduced on the delivery of fish from the Norwegian plant Tobo Fisk AS, due to the discovery of banned and harmful substances in a shipment of chilled cod liver, Voice of Russia reports referring to the Sanitary Service of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor).
Russia may also soon unilaterally annul the Memorandum with Norway on the safety of deliveries of fish production. This came as a statement by head of the Sanitary Service of the Russian Federation, Sergey Dankvert.
According to him, if in the course of this week, the Norwegian side does not present specific ways out of the situation, a complete ban of chilled Norwegian fish imports and supplies of frozen fish to Russia will be issued. Director of the Moscow branch of the Norwegian Committee on the export of fish Jan Eirik Johnsen has commented on this statement for the Voice of Russia:
«The Norwegian Committee on the export of fish did not participate in the talks between the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Norwegian Agency for food safety (Matttisynet). The Rosselkhoznadzor and Matttisynet must find a way out of the situation. As the Norwegian Committee on the export of fish does not participate in the dialogue, we cant comment on the statement of the Russian side».
It was reported that during the last weeks, in the course of laboratory monitoring of two commercial shipments of chilled Norwegian trout, a group of bacteria Escherichia coli were discovered; live larvae of helminths were found in cod liver; and Listeria were discovered in a shipment of hake. In addition, Rosselkhoznadzor notes the increase in the number of violations in the in-line documentation for products shipped to Russia: fish comes in packages without labels, on which the name and essential elements of the manufacturer should be indicated. Since the beginning of this year, the sanitary service of the Russian Federation has identified 51 such violations.
