Three cases of avian influenza found in China

Three cases of human infection with avian influenza, H7N9, have been found in China according to the WHO (World Health Organization) report, UN Radio says.
The China Health and Family Planning Commission notified the World Health Organization of the three cases, which were laboratory confirmed on 29 March by China CDC.
Two cases were found in Shanghai and one in Anhui Province.
All three cases began with respiratory tract infections and progressed to severe pneumonia with breathing difficulties between the 19th of February and the 15th of March 2013.
Two of the persons infected with the virus have died, while the third is currently in critical condition.
The Chinese government is actively investigating this event and has instituted enhanced surveillance, laboratory strengthening and training of health care professionals for detection, reporting and treatment.
WHO is in contact with the national authorities and is following the event closely.
It will issue updates as new information becomes available.
