08.02.2013 09:39 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule arrived in Kyiv on Thursday.
«Arrived in Kyiv with confidence that through Association Agreement Ukraine emerges as modern, democratic European state,» Fule wrote on Twitter upon his arrival. The program of his two-day visit includes official meetings with President Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak, and Ombudswoman Valeria Lutkovska. The EU Commissioner is also expected to speak in parliament and meet with the leaders of the opposition factions. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov assured him of Ukraines unaltered course for European integration, saying, «The government is taking active steps for signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement this fall. Kyiv also attaches great importance to the upcoming EU-Ukraine summit on February 25th in Brussels,» Azarov said. He said that next week the government would approve a priority action plan for European integration. «The government is finalizing a plan of priority tasks for Ukraines integration with the EU for 2013. The results of this meeting will certainly be taken into account. The government will approve the document next week. I as the prime minister can say with all responsibility that the government will fulfill all of the tasks needed to ensure Ukraines full integration with the EU,» Azarov said. The EU Commissioner said in turn that the signing of the Association Agreement in November hinged on Ukraines actions. «We realize that we cannot wait, and the window of opportunity is open right now. If you take a look at the EU-Ukraine political calendar, you will understand that we have months, and not years, and we have to work for this,» Fule said. He also expressed regret that nothing had changed with regard to the fulfillment of the European Unions key demands since his last visit to Ukraine five months ago. He called on the Ukrainian authorities to address all the unresolved issues so as to remove all barriers to the countrys European course. «All of the remaining unsettled issues should be tackled. Ukraine should take real steps in this direction,» Fule said.
