Australian flautist set to delight audiences in Ukraine

The Australian Embassy in Kyiv is pleased to support the upcoming tour to Ukraine by acclaimed Australian classical flautist, Ana de la Vega, in September and October. Ana de la Vega will present three performances as part of a program of events to celebrate the twentyfifth anniversary of Australian-Ukrainian diplomatic relations.
On Monday 26 September, the Australian Embassy and the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will co-present Ana de la Vega in concert with the Kyiv Camerata National Ensemble of Soloists.
Commencing at 7.00pm, the concert program will feature much-loved works by Mozart.
Tickets (70–250 UAH) are available from the Kyiv Philharmonic by telephone on (044) 278 1697 or online at: www.filarmonia.com.ua/en.afisha?2016–09–26.
On Tuesday 27 September, Ana will visit the Main Military Clinical Hospital, where she will perform a recital in the grounds of the hospital, bringing a welcome musical interlude to recovering victims of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and their visitors. Ana will also conduct a master class with students from the Gliere Kyiv Musical Institute and the Tchaikovsky Musical Academy in Kyiv.
Travelling west to Lviv, on Saturday 1 October, Ana de la Vega will perform solo pieces by Australian composers Larry Sitsky and Nigel Edwards, as part of the ‘Night of Contrasts’ program at the Contrasts International Contemporary Music Festival.
Concluding the tour, on Sunday 2 October, Ana will perform in concert with the ‘Lviv Virtuosos’ Academic chamber orchestra. Tickets for the Lviv performances are available online at: www.philharmonia.lviv.ua
In December 2010, Ana de la Vega made headlines in the United Kingdom when she performed the ‘modern world première’ of a long-lost concerto by Czech composer Josef Mysliveček with the English Chamber Orchestra in London.
The performance was voted ‘Critics Choice’ in London’s TimeOut magazine. The concerto had not been performed in over 200 years, after the score was lost somewhere in Europe in the eighteenth century.
Speaking ahead of the concert dates, Australian Chargé d’Affaires Bruce Edwards said the Australian Embassy was honoured to be presenting Ana de la Vega to a Ukrainian audience.
«As part of the celebration of twenty five years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Ukraine, we are proud to present a talent such as Ana. Shared values transcend geographic distance, as does shared cultural appreciation; and Ana is a perfect cultural ambassador for the links between Australia and Ukraine.» Mr Edwards also highlighted Ms de la Vega’s multicultural heritage. «Born to an Argentinian father and British-Canadian mother who together made a life and family in Australia, Ana set out to study with, then to be considered among, the world’s finest flute players.»
Ana de la Vega is now based in Berlin, after many years living and working in London, where she founded the London International Players, a group of outstanding young European performers. This tour will see her make her première performances in Ukraine. Ana de la Vega’s tour to Ukraine will be supported by the Australian Embassy in Kyiv and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with additional support from Penfolds Wines of Australia.
