European Business Association urges Zelensky not to sign anti-tobacco law

24.10.2019 14:18 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of this week, EBA (European Business Association) has asked the Ukrainian President not to sign law No. 1049 as it contains unacceptable norms to regulate the Ukrainian domestic market tobacco prices, Ukrinform says referring to the EBA report. «The European Business Association has appealed to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, not to sign the law that contains rules on the regulation of the tobacco market prices (Bill No. 1049) within its current version as such, which can have a significant negative impact on the Ukrainian business, economy and investment attractiveness,» the report reads. As to EBA experts, the introduction of the proposed amendments to the law can result in the Ukrainian domestic market cigarettes average prices’ 18% boost (that is, averagely UAH7 per pack) additionally to the prices’ growth due to the excise tax 20% rise (that is, averagely UAH6 per pack) to be launched since early 2020 as stipulated by the Ukrainian current Tax Code - what, in total, means that each cigarette pack price will go up averagely by UAH13, thus causing the domestic market cigarettes’ illegal trade additional boost.
