Cargill doubles FR3™ transformer fluid production capacity in Türkiye

01.09.2026 12:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Key Takeaways

Capacity expansion in Türkiye:

Cargill has doubled its production capacity for FR3™ natural ester dielectric fluid at its Dilovası Bioindustrial facility to meet surging global and domestic demand.

  • Driven by critical energy infrastructure:

The investment directly supports high-load applications requiring fire safety and resilience, particularly data centers, AI infrastructure, and renewable energy installations.

  • Enhanced safety and sustainability:

FR3™ fluid is over 99% bio-based and 100% biodegradable in as little as 10 days, featuring a high fire point (350–360 °C) that significantly reduces fire risks compared to conventional mineral oil.

  • Strengthening the regional supply chain:

The expanded facility bolsters Türkiye’s established transformer manufacturing sector and reinforces Dilovası’s strategic position in Cargill’s global Bioindustrial network.

  • ISTANBUL, AUGUST 24, 2026 — Cargill has doubled production capacity for its FR3 natural ester dielectric fluid at its Bioindustrial facility in Dilovası, Türkiye. The investment will help Cargill respond to growing customer demand for high-performance transformer fluids that support fire safety, grid resilience and sustainability goals.

Demand for reliable energy infrastructure is increasing as artificial intelligence, data centers, renewable energy and electrification expand worldwide. The International Energy Agency projects that global electricity consumption by data centers will more than double by 2030 to approximately 945 terawatt-hours.

These trends are increasing demand for transformer technologies that can operate reliably in high-load environments. This is particularly important for data centers and other critical infrastructure, including hospitals, airports, metro systems, battery energy storage systems, solar installations and wind farms.

FR3 fluid is a K-class, high-fire-point natural ester dielectric fluid that contains over 99% bio-based content according to ASTM D6866. Its typical fire point of 350–360 °C helps reduce fire risk compared with conventional mineral oil. FR3 fluid can also support greater load flexibility and longer insulation life when used in transformers designed for high-temperature operation.

    Investing in Dilovası

Cargill added a new production line at its Dilovası Bioindustrial facility to meet increasing demand from customers in Türkiye and international markets.

The project was completed through close collaboration among Cargill’s engineering, operations and maintenance teams, with zero lost-time incidents. In addition to doubling FR3 fluid production capacity, the investment improves operating efficiency and strengthens Dilovası’s role within Cargill’s global Bioindustrial manufacturing network.

«Data centers and other critical infrastructure depend on safe, reliable and resilient power,» said Renee van Schijndel, Senior Director Global Product Line Transformer Fluids at Cargill. «By expanding production in Dilovası, we can serve customers more effectively as they invest in energy systems designed to meet rapidly growing demand. FR3 fluid helps reduce fire risk while supporting transformer performance, load flexibility and asset life.»

FR3 fluid’s thermal properties help slow the aging of the cellulosic insulation materials used inside transformers. Depending on transformer design and operating conditions, this can provide operators with greater flexibility to manage higher loads or extend equipment life.

«Doubling the FR3 fluid production capacity at Dilovası allows us to respond to our customers more quickly and efficiently,» said Ramadan Küçük, Board Member of Cargill Türkiye. «This investment reflects the strength of our teams in Türkiye and the important role Dilovası plays in Cargill’s global operations. It also demonstrates our long-term commitment to innovation, operational excellence and continued industrial growth in Türkiye.»

    Supporting sustainability goals

FR3 fluid is derived from renewable vegetable oils and contains over 99% bio-based content according to ASTM D6866. It is 100% biodegradable in as little as 10 days per OPPTS 835.3100.

Its performance characteristics can also help customers improve transformer efficiency, extend equipment life and reduce dependence on fossil-based materials. These benefits are increasingly relevant for data centers, renewable energy projects and grid operators working toward their sustainability goals.

The expanded production line at Dilovası was also designed to improve process and energy efficiency at the facility.

    Supporting Türkiye’s export value chain

The investment strengthens Cargill’s ability to supply transformer manufacturers in Türkiye and serve growing international demand for high-performance dielectric fluids.

Türkiye has an established transformer manufacturing sector that supplies customers across global markets. By increasing local FR3 fluid production, Cargill is supporting this ecosystem and helping strengthen Türkiye’s position in the value chain for advanced energy technologies.

«As demand for electricity infrastructure continues to grow, collaboration across the value chain will be essential,» Küçük said. «Cargill is proud to work alongside transformer manufacturers and energy-sector customers in Türkiye as they serve both domestic and international markets.»

With increased capacity at Dilovası, Cargill is positioned to support customers investing in safer, more reliable and more sustainable energy infrastructure worldwide.
