Ukrainian agrarians start early winter onions harvesting
21.05.2019 23:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, the first offers of the domestically-grown super-early winter bulb onion have appeared on the Ukrainian domestic market, Ukrinform says referring to the EastFruit report.
«As of last week, the first lots appeared on domestic market at prices up to UAH2530 per kg (US$0.951.15 per kg) but due to the lots’ being small, and owing to the onions’ being small-sized and not completely ripe, they didn’t enjoy any high demand. The first lots came from the country south regions, mainly from Kherson region. However, by end week, the offer sharply boosted; at same time, the onion lots’ sizes also enlarged. As much as the offer boosted, the domestic market onion prices were declining: thus, as of last week Fri, prices declined to UAH17 per kg (US$0.65 per kg), with the sellers being ready to decline the sale prices even further, for bigger lots,» the report reads.
Reportedly, as a result, UAH17 per kg (US$0.65 per kg) price became quite acceptable for the domestic market whole purchasers from the central and eastern regions and, in turn, stimulated the south regions’ onion-growers to quicken their onion harvesting.
In meanwhile, this year the Ukrainian onion-growers have already significantly enlarged their onion sown areas (in part., early onion and winter onion).
