Cabinet is going to create in 2004 a half year grain reserve
16.04.2004 15:00 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
This year Cabinet is going to purchase 3 million tons grain for State and regional resources in order to create six months food grain reserve for assuring domestic grain and grain products’ market stability, reported Ivan Kyrylenko, Deputy Premier for Agrarian-Industrial Complex. As to him, Cabinet is going to buy 1.5 million tons grain for State resources, with 1 million ton to be bought through State Material Reserves’ Committee and 0.5 million tons through «Bread of Ukraine». I. Kyrylenko didn’t define purchases’ financing sources, having only remarked Cabinet is going to ask Verkhovna Rada to allocate money to «Bread of Ukraine» for 2004 mortgage grain purchases while reconsidering 2004 State budget. I. Kyrylenko reminded, that Government, having charged regions with task of buying 1 million ton grain, is now getting ready Cabinets’ corresponding decree defining necessary purchases’ volumes for each Ukrainian region. Cabinet estimates present domestic food grain stocks 2 million tons, what equals to country’s four months’ reserves. Last year spring Cabinet requested regions to create three months’ grain reserves with further maintaining them in order to assure domestic bread market stability. This year grain crop is estimated by Cabinet 3235 million tons (against ~ 20.2 million tons in 2002). Ukrainian domestic market’s food grain demand is 67 million tons grain.
