As of end Mar 2008, Ukraine has shipped ≈ 900,000 MT grains to export markets (from Government fixed total 1.2 mn MT export quota), reported Volodymyr Klymenko, Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) President on Apr 4, 2008. “As of this year end Mar, Ukraine has exported about 900,000 MT grains. Export shipments were down against total export permitted until this year Mar 31, – what is to be explained with Ukraine having had temporary dropped out from global grains trade and having it very hard to get back into trade process after halt,” said Klymenko. As to UGA President, exporters simply weren’t able to ship out timely all grains permitted to be exported; besides, traders were afraid of grains ports accumulating due to grains export problem uncertainty. Klymenko made it known presently maize export, though freed from quoting, is still limited through export licenses drawing up procedures.
