WTO granted Ukraine 5-year transitional period

World Trade Organization (WTO) has given Ukraine 5-year transitional period in order to adjust its legislation norms/rules to WTO demands, reported news agencies referring to Pascal Lamy (WTO Director General) declaration made on Feb 5 press-conference held after Ukraine WTO joining protocol signing ceremony.
As to Lamy, this transitional period is necessary as Ukrainian economy (esp. agricultural sector) development specifics are to be carefully considered.
Lamy admitted Ukraine was given longer adaptation period as other WTO members.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ukraine WTO joining protocol was signed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and WTO Director General Pascal Lamy in Geneva Feb 5, 2008.
