Global oilseed production in 2025/26 is forecast at a record 692 million tons

According to the report of the USDA Oilseeds: World Markets and Trade (May 2025), global oilseed production in 2025/26 is forecast at a record 692 million tons, up 2 percent compared to the 2024/25 marketing year. Production gains are led by higher soybean output in South America, but at a lower rate of growth than in recent years. Following last year’s drought which reduced yields across Europe, sizeable recoveries are expected for both rapeseed and sunflowerseed. Global soybean production is forecast to rise nearly 6 million tons to almost 427 million on a larger Brazil crop, despite lower soybean harvests expected in the United States, Canada, and Argentina. Global rapeseed production is expected to rebound over 5 percent on gains in the European Union, Canada, and Russia, far outpacing declines in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. World sunflowerseed production is forecast to grow 4 million tons on substantial recovery in the European Union, Ukraine, and Russia.
