Sugar prices global FAO index up about 3%
04.10.2018 19:43 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
This year Sept sugar prices global FAO average index has grown to 161.4 points (up 4 points (2%) against this year Aug/down 43% against last year Sept), Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the FAO (UN (UN Food and Agricultural Organization) report.
The FAO experts say this growth is mainly thanks to Brazilian sugar cane harvesting season starting (as Brazil is global biggest sugar producer/exporter). As of recent, within the sugar cane vegetation period, Brazil was struck with a draughty weather what has made a negative impact upon the sugar cane yielding capacity, so the sugar cane crop has become down against expected. Besides, the FAO experts admit this growth is also due to the global experts’ worries about this year sugar cane crop within South and South-East Asia (in part., within India and Indonesia) due to insufficient precipitation within the ongoing monsoon period.
