Ukraine ranked fourth among European mushroom producing countries

08.06.2017 11:53 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of this week, while speaking within the press conference «Modern Mushroom Growing 2017», Iryna Bandura, Chief instructor at the department of processing and storing agricultural products at Tavrian State Agrotechnical University, has said Ukraine ranked fourth among European countries that produce the largest number of mushrooms, after France, Italy and Spain, Ukrinform reports. As to the report, at the same time, Ukraine has a much cheaper raw material base for growing mushrooms, and it has potential for the output expanding. «Ukraine holds the fourth position in mushroom production in Europe, after France, Italy and Spain. On average, each Ukrainian eat 1.8 kg of mushrooms per year,» the expert said. At the same time, she stressed that Ukraine has good prospects for growing organic mushrooms. «Ukraine, compared to other countries, has a great raw material base for growing mushrooms. Straw and husk are sold at a rather low price, all seed producers in Ukraine have the needed experience so that to make a good quality mycelium,» Bandura said.
