Ban calls to improve education access for world indigenous people
09.08.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
While making a massage ahead of the International Day of the World Indigenous People (observed annually Aug 9), the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said governments are encouraged to improve education access for indigenous people and to reflect their experiences and culture in places of learning, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ban Ki-moon admitted indigenous people face discrimination, stigmatization and lack of respect for their heritage and values. As a consequence, he said, indigenous youth graduate from high school at rates below the national average.
In some countries, below 40% attend school full-time.
As to the report, Ban labelled these statistics as «unacceptable».
