President: I am optimistic regarding visa-free regime for Ukraine in 2016
03.06.2016 18:47 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of today, while giving a press conference in Kyiv, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is optimistic regarding the provision of the visa-free regime for Ukraine already in 2016 and the completion of ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«I would like to emphasize that the migrant crisis is a big challenge first of all for Europe itself, a difficult test for loyalty to the principles on which the EU was founded. I have no doubt that over the last two months, there has been nothing new in the issue of migrant crisis,» the President said while answering the question whether the introduction of the visa-free regime can be blocked due to the migrant crisis in Europe and whether the ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement will be delayed.
As to the report, the President emphasized that Ukraine had undertaken commitments after setting a list of reforms to be implemented.
As to Poroshenko, Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements from the list, which included over 140 steps. So, the President noted that the mission that had carried out the assessment of the compliance with the requirements had written an «absolutely brilliant report» on that issue and after that the European Commission had adopted a decision to submit the legislative proposal on the provision of the visa-free regime for Ukraine.
As to Poroshenko, the only thing discussed now is the date of introduction of the visa-free regime. «We are doing everything possible for the Parliament and Council to consider this issue by summer, but, unfortunately, it may happen in September. However, I am optimistic regarding the provision of the visa-free regime for Ukraine in 2016. There are no negative signals on that issue,» Poroshenko emphasized.
