President: Tribute to war heroes is basis for decent future of Ukraine

Yesterday the Ukrainian President took part in celebrations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Kyiv liberation from fascist invaders, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
«Today, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Kyiv liberation from Nazi invaders. Our sacred duty is to honor the bright memory of the fallen heroes, pay tribute to our veterans and bring the lessons of true patriotism to the younger generation,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
According to the President, tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War is a basis for decent future of the state.
The Head of State noted that the battle for Kyiv was not only the grand in scale and casualties military operation that dramatically affected the whole course of the war. «Kyiv liberation became a true turning point which meant the inevitability of liberation of native land and the Great Victory. For Kyiv citizens, it also meant liberation from inhuman occupation regime that lasted almost 800 days, liberation from the nightmares of occupation and mass executions,» he stressed.
«Today, we bow our heads paying tribute to their feat,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
According to the Head of State, heroic feat of Kyiv liberators will remain forever in the history as an example of spiritual indestructibility of people, their patriotism and will to freedom and independence from invaders.
The participants of celebrations honored memory of the deceased with a moment of silence.
