UKRAINIAN GRAINS MARKET

Within reporting week Ukrainian domestic/export grains markets situation has remained mostly same as within previous week: as earlier, grains demand/offer prices continued gradually going down due to new crop grains harvest time approaching,

Within this week Ukrainian domestic/export markets’ demand for most grains remained, upon whole, low, — what firstly refers to wheat (esp. food wheat). It is to be admitted, within this week traders were not interested in wheat purchases as global market demand for Ukrainian wheat so far remained low. Within this week traders have already successfully fulfilled obligations on all export contracts they had earlier concluded, but couldn’t make any new contracts since all importing countries tried to purchase only less expensive US-grown wheat.

Besides, within this week many regions market participants reported that significant part of Ukrainian flour milling integrated plants had already accumulated wheat big lots and therefore were not going to purchase any more wheat until new crop wheat harvest starts.

It is to be admitted, some experts say Ukrainian domestic 2011/12 grains (esp. wheat) transition reserves are rather big, — what has stimulated wheat owners to significantly boost their wheat offer within last few days. In fact, wheat owners are eager to sell off their wheat reserves (as they are sure wheat is presently risky and unmarketable commodity), — but, finding absolutely no demand, they have to make considerable price discounts.

It is to be admitted, traders say within this week wheat owners have made a few very big lots (50,000–70,000 MT) offers, — but these offer so far remain non-required.

As earlier mentioned, wheat owners adhered to a wait-and-see policy within winter-spring 2012, — what may finally bring them gross incomes considerable decline due to wheat prices current lowering. In fact, earlier, when our country still made wheat export shipments and so traders were keeping relatively high wheat purchase prices, wheat owners were abstaining from making wheat sales, — but now, when wheat is not demanded, wheat owners are excessively eager to sell their wheat off.

Experts affirm all above-mentioned factors will prompt Ukrainian domestic/export grains markets slackening in near future.

Within reporting week range of domestic market wheat purchase prices has remained unchanged. However, average purchase price has much declined as many traders have had lowered their wheat purchase prices still within previous week, — what has stimulated other traders to correct their purchase prices up to current market.

It is to be admitted, expected export starting prices for Ukrainian new crop grains are now gradually going down due to global grains market quotations current seasonal changes.

Barley

Within this week traders feed barley CPT Black Sea ports basis purchase prices have, once again, declined: prices have sagged to UAH1,740–1,850 per MT. At same time, EXW-ex-elevator basis purchase prices ranged within UAH1,550–1,700 per MT (depending on regions/lots).

As of this week, Ukrainian feed barley export prices ranged within US$247–257 per MT (FOB Black Sea deep water ports, big lots).

This week feed wheat export offer prices ranged within US$235–245 per MT (Handysize/Panamax type vessels).

As to experts forecasts, Ukrainian new crop feed wheat purchase prices will be US$225–235 per MT.

Within reporting week traders didn’t show any interest in food wheat purchases; food wheat market remained in unsettled state. Experts admit food wheat market can start either strengthening (due to global conjuncture change) or slackening (due to new crop food wheat shipments).

Within this week domestic market 3 and 2 classes food wheat purchase prices were significantly different depending on sellers/purchasers; 3 class food wheat purchase prices ranged within UAH1,600–1,750 per MT, EXW-ex-elevator (2 class — UAH1,700–1,800 per MT, EXW-ex-elevator).

On CPT Black Sea/Azov Sea ports basis, most traders were ready to purchase 3 class food wheat at UAH1,750–1,850 per MT (2 class - UAH1,800–1,900 per MT).

It is to be admitted, within this week food wheat (11.5% protein content) export settlement prices (with domestic/global prices taken into account) ranged within US$250–260 per MT, FOB (however, these prices are to be considered just declarative due to new sale/purchase operations absence).

Maize

Within this week EXW-ex-elevator basis feed maize minimum and maximum purchase prices ranged within UAH1,600–1,750 per MT (EXW-ex-elevator); prices depended on shipments regions, contract conditions, seller status (middleman or producer) and purchasers demand volumes.
